Last week, Johnson & Johnson Innovation Asia Pacific wrapped up its seventh consecutive year at the ChinaBio Partnering Forum (CBPF) in Shanghai, the largest partnering event in the region. Having adjusted to the virtual conference format, this year CBPF adopted a virtual and onsite hybrid approach, meaning that we were able to reaccustom ourselves with the concept of a physical exhibit, in-person one-on-ones and old-fashioned networking. On top of more than 20 one-on-one partnering meetings, we were able to share more about our external innovation strategy with prospective collaborators through multiple speaking opportunities featuring our Johnson & Johnson Innovation experts.
Pharma Intelligence, the media partner for CBPF, hosted Dr. William Hait, Global Head of Johnson & Johnson External Innovation, and Dr. Dan Wang, Head of Johnson & Johnson Innovation Asia Pacific, for a discussion on the transformation of the industry globally and within the region, and how this has defined our partnership strategy moving forward. See the preview below and check out their full interview here.
“We do everything we can to attract the best entrepreneurs–people who have great ideas–and then we evaluate those ideas and offer a variety of opportunities.” – Dr. Hait
Dr. Wang also had the opportunity to join a panel moderated by the founder and chairman of the ChinaBio® Group, Greg Scott, alongside other industry peers. Dan shared Johnson & Johnson’s specific areas of interest for innovation in China, stories of some of the great partners we have collaborated with and her thoughts on future changes we will see in the China healthcare industry.
“Platform innovation in China is emerging to next-generation technologies in a few key areas: cell and gene therapies, next generation sequencing, AI drug discovery and digital diagnostics. These, among many others, are all our areas of interest.”
Andrew Wong, Regional Vice President of Early Innovation Partnering at Johnson & Johnson Innovation Asia Pacific; Dr. Sharon Chan, Head of JLABS @ Shanghai at Johnson & Johnson Innovation; and Dr. Wei Wu, Principal, Venture Investments at Johnson & Johnson Innovation – JJDC, also had the great opportunity to introduce our innovative collaboration model to the CBPF community. To highlight our footprint and approach to partnerships in Asia Pacific for the upcoming event season, our team also shared an infographic for the virtual and physical exhibit. You can check that out here and connect with us if you have a transformative idea to share from the region!
