VP, Business Development, Diagnostics and Enabling Technologies
Deb Pfennig heads the Diagnostic & Enabling Technologies Business Development Group at Johnson & Johnson. In this role, she leads Business Development strategy in coordination with R&D and commercial leadership in support of Janssen Diagnostic & Enabling Technologies. Deb is responsible for transactions, acquisitions, and alliance management relating to diagnostic, digital diagnostics and technologies enabling digital solutions and use of big data sets connecting biology to medicine.
Deb has over 30 years of industry experience spanning across Pharmaceuticals and Consumer Healthcare, as well as different functions including New Product Development, Diagnostics, Sales, Marketing and Business Development. Prior to her current role, Deb spent the last decade in Business Development, Oncology, where she led many acquisitions, licenses, venture investments, and divestitures to supplement Janssen’s internal pipeline in the field of cancer.
Previously, Deb worked in New Ventures within Janssen Pharmaceutical Companies of Johnson & Johnson where she led divestitures, out-licensing partnerships, formed new venture arrangements/spinouts and identified global and emerging market investments that sourced external innovation globally and supplemented early/late stage product flow.
Deb began her Johnson & Johnson career in Oncology New Business Development, where she was responsible for leading the global business development oncology strategy, recommending strategic licensing and merger/acquisitions which, in part, contributed to the Pharmaceutical Group’s growing leadership in the field of cancer through sourcing external growth opportunities. Previous to joining Johnson & Johnson, Deb held global commercial leadership roles at Pfizer and Novartis across numerous therapeutic areas, including neuroscience, pain, bone health, women’s health, multiple sclerosis, and oncology. Deb also served as commercial leader for the first biotech/big pharma partnership in the industry.
Deb received a Bachelor of Science in Marketing/Philosophy from Boston College in Chestnut Hill, MA and an MBA from the Amos Tuck School of Business Administration at Dartmouth College in Hanover, NH.
